Abstract

This image brings new insight to the long history of street sellers and their wares. The man in this image, identified as Dan Pooler would sell his cooked crab on the streets of Eureka, California. Differing accounts assert that he would refer to the crabs as either 'Ocean Watermelon' or 'Ocean Strawberries', according to the fact that when cooked, crab turns a pleasing pink/red color. Either way, it is an endearing part of the past of Eureka.
