Abstract

This postcard lends great insight into one of the most formative buildings in historic-era Eureka. Built in 1922, this Inn quickly expanded to take over an entire city block by 1935. While hard times befell the Inn during the late 50s, it rallied in 1960 with a wealthy investor. 1982 saw the Inn placed on the National Register of Historic Places, an important step in its preservation. However, investors defaulting and selling became a pattern until 2008, when a southern California Investor bought the Inn and decided to restore it. By 2010, it had reopened and is now a functioning Inn for the community. Many residents of Eureka have fond memories of the Inn around Christmas time, when the Inn would provide a lavish display of decorations.
