Abstract

This image is a quintessential example of a logging crew and the importance of food in their lives. Many articles have been published about the high level of activity that loggers maintained, and the high level of calories necessary to sustain them. This description indicates that a logging outfit with bad food would not attract good workers, and that cooks were a highly prized commodity in the early days of logging the redwoods. Within this picture there are a few named characters, including; C.F. Lucas, John Lucas, Edgar Lucas, Mrs. Jessen, Joe Spinney, and Charles McGinnis.
