Abstract
Postcard description: "Visit Lazio's unique dining room located on Humboldt Bay at the foot of C St. in Eureka, California. Here the finest of fresh seafoods are cooked by expert Chefs for you dining pleasure. Here, too, the processing and handling of fresh fish can be watched through the dining room windows. Visitors are welcome to walk through Lazio's modern fish plant to see the unloading of boats and the processing and canning of fish." Unfortunately, this restaurant was shut down just 60 years after it opened in 1948. The owner became embroiled in a lengthy and expensive legal battle with the City of Eureka over waterfront zoning codes and tidelands legalities. Although the owner won, it left him unable to keep his family business running. The court case has since been the subject of a master's thesis and the cause of much disapproval, and the court collection contains over 1000 documents.
